Who: Pitcher Gary Nolan
Team: Cincinnati Reds
Card: 1973 Topps
Acquired: TTM 1/1 7/23/2009 (232 days)
Comments: A member of the Reds Hall of Frame, Gary Nolan had a relatively short career, spanning just 10 seasons. He made it count in those 10 though, managing a .611 winning percentage (110-70) and a 3.08 ERA. He finished third in the Rookie of the Year voting in 1967 (behind Tom Seaver) was an All-Star in 1972 and won two World Series titles with the Reds in '75 and '76. A Big Red Machine member, indeed. Arm injures cut short what was amounting to be a fantastic career.
This is the sixth 1973 Topps card featuring a Cincinnati Red that I have autographed. Others include Denis Menke, Larry Stahl, Ross Grimsley, Jack Billingham and George Foster. The checklist is starting to dwindle... I may have to go after the whole set one of these days.
