Queen City Tower

Queen City Tower in Cincinnati
A vertical panorama of Cincinnati's newest building. I walk past it every day on my way to and from work and it's amazing to see it's progress of the course of just hours. The pano came out well in the morning sun, but makes the building looks a bit stumpy. It really is much taller than it appears above. Click on the photo for a larger version.

I believe the building used to be called "Queen City Tower" but is slightly different now. "Queen City" is still in the name, I believe.

Thanksgiving Day Race

Paul, Dan and Gretchen
Another Thanksgiving, another 10k. I turned in a surprisingly good time for myself - 46:11. For not doing a ton of training and no speed work lately, I was happily surprised when I crossed the finish. G turned in a good time, as did Paul, aka, "4444" - we are all pictured above. Thanks Gina, for the wonderful photography.

Disco

Disco ball

This disco ball is hanging on the second floor of Bromwell's on 4th Street. They had an open house on Saturday. G and I stopped in to see the remodel and expansion they had recently completed. It look great of course. We met the owner and had a nice conversation about downtown - something that has been coming up in conversation a lot lately. Funny how that is.

12th & Vine

12th & Vine

After sitting in on Debbbie Millman's "Design Matters" interview with John Foster at the Art Academy in OTR, I walked over to Vine street on my way home. It had been a while since I had walked around over there (I lived nearby in 2001-02) and it's amazing the transformation that has taken place. Though I had always heard about the city's intent to clean up that area and make business more viable there, I had to actually see happen to believe. There is still a lot of work to be done, but the change so far is great. The above photo is facing northwest at 12th and Vine. The store front in the photo is going to be MiCa 12v and is opening next Friday, November 2. There used to be a little crumby convenient store in that space that didn't sell milk. I'm sure they sold plenty of other things out of that spot, if you know what I mean.

So, I just have to say that my confidence in OTR is coming back around. I certainly knew of its potential while living there, it just seemed pretty far off at the time. Seeing this, and hearing about the support that the proposed city street car is getting, I'm excited.

Downtown

Downtown Cincinnati

Looking up on Vine street, in front of The Christian Science Reading Room. I would love to see those floors above street level converted to condos - look at those bay windows. Plus, a great location right next to Fountain Square.
