Thanksgiving Day Race

Paul, Dan and Gretchen
Another Thanksgiving, another 10k. I turned in a surprisingly good time for myself - 46:11. For not doing a ton of training and no speed work lately, I was happily surprised when I crossed the finish. G turned in a good time, as did Paul, aka, "4444" - we are all pictured above. Thanks Gina, for the wonderful photography.

Rave Run

Bend, Oregon
G and I are out in Bend, Oregon right now. We've been able to get a couple of runs in during our stay. Above is a photo from our run today at Shevlin Park. It was fantastic. More photos later.

Niketown insanity

So Nike was running a bunch of promotion around the marathon this weekend. They handed out these sweet pace bands where they printed out the mile splits for your goal time. The bracelet was nice, Dry-Fit type material, but the print out was too damn small. I had a hard time reading it during the race. I wasn't too worried since I was with my pace group for a lot of the race, so I knew I was on track. I did pick up two bands, so I'm thinking that using each band for one half of a race would work out really well. They will be great for half-marathons for sure.

Oh, Niketown. So, we got these lanyards at the expo that you had to take to Niketown on Michigan Ave. to swipe and see if you won anything. The line for this was crazy! I did end up waiting in it, and it moved quite swiftly. I didn't win anything, but it was kinda fun anyway. I did pick up a Dry-Fit Prefontaine t-shirt while I was there.

Ironically, McDonald's had a booth at the Chicago Marathon Expo. I think it was mostly coffee. The kids at the expo were happy for sure.

Running

2006 has been a solid running year for me. Tonight, Gretchen and I went up to our high school and ran the Homecoming 5k. I turned in a 20:41, good enough for a PR. That will be my fourth race in a row that I have PRed. G also did really well, coming 3 seconds from her PR. She ended up winning her age group as well.

So, yeah, it's been a super running year. In '04 and '05, I was in school at night and G and I were planning our wedding, so I wasn't as focused on training as I am now. Plus, I really like the training program I'm using for upcoming the Chicago Marathon. It seems to fit the way I like to run, if that makes any sense. In any case, it's working and I'm cracking off some great times. With that though, I still feel like I've got some room to improve - which is great. That will hopefully keep me training hard through the winter.

G and I will be heading up to Chicago next weekend for the marathon where I hope to make it a 5th PR in a row. My fastest marathon is a 3:38 at the Twin Cities Marathon in Minneapolis in 2003. I've been training to run a 3:30 at Chicago. Let's hope all goes well. Oh, and look for some photobloggin' action right here next weekend!

Hood to Coast photos

Chippy at Hood to Coast
I've finally had a chance to get up a webpage for all the Hood to Coast photos that are team took while out in Oregon. Right now, there are only two galleries up, but I'll be adding stuff all week. The photo above? That's Chippy getting prepared for the start of the race. You can check out the photos here.

Just one of many team photos. I'll have more photos up soon, I hope. It was hard not to take a good photo with the scenery out in Oregon. Check our Hood to Coast photoblog for nice, grainy stuff uploaded directly from our phones.

Hood to Coast Relay

Mt. Hood
G and I are headed out to Portland, OR tomorrow to run in the Hood to Coast relay race. It's a 197 mile relay race from Mt. Hood to the Oregon coast. From the website:

As the largest relay race in North America, The Hood To Coast Relay stretches 197 miles from the top of Oregon's majestic Mt. Hood down to the beautiful Pacific Ocean in Seaside, Oregon. Over 12,000 runners and 4,800 walkers in the Portland to Coast Walk, show up to experience this annual event, now in its 25th year! Come join us this August 25th and 26th!

We are running with a bunch of folks from our running group. Everyone is super-stoked and ready to go.

So, if you would like to check out our week/weekend as it unfolds, we'll be photoblogging at gmahanh2c.blogspot.com.

More photos and video when we get back.

5k PR

Dan 5k
So, how about a 5k on Friday night? Sounds fun! Well, I guess it was in the end. I ran the Brian Rohne Race over at NKU tonight with what seemed like nearly every college cross country runner in Northern Kentucky. Even though most of those kids smoked me, I must have been inspired because I ran a personal best 21:18:5 (official), beating my previous best of 21:25 from 2003. It feels good to be back! It was a tougher course than the one I PRed on a few years ago too.

So, Gretchen captured the photo above with her camera phone, and took a much better photo than I did of her last week at a 10k. Thanks sweets!

More races coming up. Training for the Chicago Marathon, the Hood to Coast relay is in exactly two weeks, and I have at least one other 5k thrown in there in September. Looking forward to them all.

Great legs

Bad photo. This was my ultra-lame attempt at taking a photo of Gretchen as she crossed the finish line at the Lady Distance Classic on Sunday. I thought I had it framed up nicely, but alas, I didn't. G did pretty well... but not PR for her that day.

Heart Mini

Heart Mini Marathon start line
Hey! Heart Mini Marathon was today. The start line was just out our window here at the condo. Kinda funny. G ran a good 5k and placed second in her division. I think she won anward too. Nice! I did a 1:10:20 in the 15k, which I am pretty happy about. It's close to my PR in that race, faster than last year and this after having a tougher course in the past. Here are some photos from today.

Emerald Miles

Dan and Linda
Running friend Linda and me before the Emerald Miles race in Newport on Saturday March 11. I would have posted this earlier, but Blogger took a crap last week when trying to upload images. As for the race, I did a 22:12... not bad for no 5ks in a long time. Plus, it was raining pretty hard that morning.

Marathoning

G and I ran the Detroit Marathon yesterday and did pretty well - 3:50. Neither of us had particularly great training leading up to this one, so we were a little surprise about the time. Shoot, I was just hoping to have a good day and break 4:00. Thanks to PHiL, we have some great photos to post. I'll have those up later tonight.

I've been thinking a lot about our good friends in south Florida today. Wilma is just pounding them. I hope they are okay.

UPDATE: Marathon photos are up here.
