Queen City Tower

Queen City Tower in Cincinnati
A vertical panorama of Cincinnati's newest building. I walk past it every day on my way to and from work and it's amazing to see it's progress of the course of just hours. The pano came out well in the morning sun, but makes the building looks a bit stumpy. It really is much taller than it appears above. Click on the photo for a larger version.

I believe the building used to be called "Queen City Tower" but is slightly different now. "Queen City" is still in the name, I believe.

Kings Knights

Kings Knight Football
I have not been to a football game at the Alma Mater since my last one as a senior. Here's a panoramic from my phone from the 1st quarter of the Kings High School football game on October 9, 2009 against Turpin. My Knights ended up losing to the Spartans 14-7 on a rainy night.

Click the photo for a lager version.

Schmidt/Crown Brewery

Over-The-Rhine Brewery
G and I had a great opportunity to see an old brewery space in Over-The-Rhine. A small space, three stories under the ground, was formerly occupied by Cincinnati brewers Schmidt Brewery, then later Crown Brewery. Here's the photoset I've got up on Flikr. I only had my iPhone with me, so photos are not the best. Often times, I needed help from someone with a flashlight to get a shot.

More comments on the experience later.

For further reference, here are photos I took during the Over-The-Rhine Brewery Tour in April, 2008.

Football

Tri-State Football
{update} This project has a new home here at danmahan.com - click here.

I've been meaning to do this for years.

On Flicker, I've started to post the photos I have from playing football at Tri-State University. My parents took a lot of photos at games they attended. A lot of them I gave to the guys that were in the photos. It became such a ritual that when we would have our workouts on Sunday they would ask if my parents had any photos of them. All the guys really appreciative when my folks had a photo for me to give them.

This was all spurred on by the upcoming homecoming game at Trine University this year. Yes, Trine. Tri-State changed it's name in August. I don't mind though. Anyways, at Homecoming, Trine is honoring the 1998 TSU football team with induction to the Athletic Hall of Fame. We finished 3rd in the nation that year, reaching the semi-finals in the NAIA playoffs. That's pretty cool, but I'm more excited to see a lot of the guys I played with. I figured I would start getting these photos posted to share. I've really been meaning to do it for a long, long time. Just needed the right inspiration, I guess.

So, the photo collection is here. I'll be adding sets all week. As of this post, I'm mostly done uploading what I have from 1996 - my freshman year. It includes varsity and JV games. I've got stuff all the way through 1999, so I have a ways to go. I still have a lot of scanning to do as well.

If your curious the photo above is from 1996 - Tri-State vs. Malone College at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, OH. It's right next door to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and where the NFL plays the Hall of Fame game every pre-season. Oh, the game... Malone abused us that day if I remember right. That's why I got to play! Ha. Oh, and I was 87 that year. I changed to 25 the next season.

Flood!

Flood
Here are a few photos that my step-mom, Susie, took today at the house. The Little Miami River is kicking butt today... and it's still raining! Wow.

When I was in high school, we were always good for at least one day each spring where we were flooded in and couldn't get out. How's that for a reason to be absent?

Ballparks and Stadiums

Tickets
For quite a long time now, I've wanted to create an archive of all the stadiums, ballparks, arenas and whatnot I have been to. I still have yet to get my list together, but I have put up a bunch of the photos. It was fun going through all these, organizing them and getting them on to Flickr. I suppose it was a bit tedious, but remembering all those great times with friends made it more than worth it. Click right here to see my collection.

Two notable ballparks have been left off - Cinergy Field/Riverfront Stadium and Great American Ball Park. As you can imagine, I have quite a few photos of each park. I'm figuring out a way to organize them in and have them fit in the context in which the other stadiums have been posted. There's a lot to go through... but I should have at least Cinergy Field up soon.

One ballpark that made it, but was a bit slim on photos was Petco Park in San Diego. I had taken a ton of photos the night I was there, but most were lost in a hard drive crash last summer. Doh!

Two ballparks I can't believe I don't have photos of, or not more than a handful: Memorial Stadium in Ft Wayne - I've been there probably 5 times to see the Wizards. Also, Elfstrom Stadium, home of the Kane County Cougars. What the hell is my problem?

I'll be heading to a few more new (to me) ballparks this year - Yankee Stadium to see the Reds and Yankees play before they tear it down and probably Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, FL, where the Reds hold Spring Training. If I'm lucky, I might be able to get up north to the SkyDome in Toronto. What's it called now... Rogers Centre? Right. I still have aspirations to get to a Cardinals game in St. Louis and a Brewers game in Milwaukee. Who knows when those trips will come up. You know I'll post photos when they do.

Once my database of stadiums, etc. is up on the website, I'll let ya'll know.

Ronson
Pop Rocked 2 was fantastic last night. Got to catch up with Brian and Sarah (Cricket Press and Clinton Reno (Galaxy Reno) all of whom I met at Flatstock 9 in Chicago. Highlights of the night were free beer (thanks Powerhouse) and Paul. Great times.

Pictured above is CiN Weeekly's Ronson Slagle, the proud owner of a framed Beck print by Boss Construction.

I picked up a nice My Morning Jacket print from Galaxy Reno. (photo to come...)

Here are some photoblogged shots from last night. Blogger goofed on me and created an entirely new blog instead of putting them up right here. Still not sure what's up with that.

Here is a Flickr set from last night.

Heart Mini Marathon start line
Hey! Heart Mini Marathon was today. The start line was just out our window here at the condo. Kinda funny. G ran a good 5k and placed second in her division. I think she won anward too. Nice! I did a 1:10:20 in the 15k, which I am pretty happy about. It's close to my PR in that race, faster than last year and this after having a tougher course in the past. Here are some photos from today.

New condo photos, damn iPhoto

So, I have upgraded to the newest version of iPhoto as part of the recently released iLife '06. I love Apple, but damn did they pull a crappy one this time. With their introduction of iWeb, they have changed the way photos are posted to your .mac account from iPhoto. Well, in short, the galleries are posted as a part of your iWeb and not .mac's homepage used by iPhoto '05. I'm not the only Apple customer that upset about it... there are plenty more.

Regardless, I do have new photos up. There are right here for now unless I change the URL in the furture. I'm not sure how I am going to organize my photos on .mac now.

In other news, Gretchen and I are both not feeling all that well today. Just chillin' out and watching some Olymipics.

Still in the playoffs

Gretchen and I went to our first Bengals game of the year and didn't see a good one at all. They just didn't come to play this past Sunday. Hopefully they will have a good showing this weekend in Kansas City.

There were some entertaining things about the game though. The kids in front of us were cracking us up. Sleeping in their seats, playing with their food, demanding attention of their father who was rightfully wrapped up in the game. They were not whinny, which was nice, but squirmy. We took some photos. He is one of the little guys playing with 3/4 eaten hoagie.

kid and his hoagie

One thing that struck me at the game was the amount of fans wearing orange and black. Now, a sea full of fans wearing the team colors is something that is fairly common at other NFL stadiums. But, I've been regularly going to Bengals games the past six seasons and I've never seen so many folks wearing jerseys, jackets, sweatshirts, etc. The Pro Shop at the studium was cleaned out from Christmas shopping. I see people out in public wearing Bengals gear. It's been YEARS since it's been like that. Anyways, I took this photo to show the sea of orange and black that was at the stadium.

The Bachelor

Bowl

Let the countdown begin! We have sent PHiL off to the land of wedded bliss. A rundown of the festivities (the PG version) can be found here. I may post the other version someday. Only if Glenda really wants to know...

The bachelor party for PHiL was great. I was glad to return the favor after having a nice one myself during the summer. The photo above was almos the last shot I took that night as we left the bowling alley to head home. More pictures coming soon, either from PHiL or me. I am unusually slow on this batch... sorry!

The reason for the slowness is probably due to cutting the video footage from my honeymoon. It's the first good bit of video I have ever cut and it's turning out nicely. More on that later.

Reliving 1990

The Reds today kicked off their new exhibit honoring the 1990 Reds World Series Championship. I ended up getting a chance to talk with former Reds Tom Browning, Todd Benzinger and Ron Oester. All three were really nice and told some fun stories about their playing careers and the year they won it all. Not a lot of people were at the event, so it was perfect to chat with the guys and get their autographs.

Here's a photo of Tom Browning, aka Mr. Perfect throwing balls from the mound in speed pitch booth at the museum. The photos were taken behind a plastic window that looked through an umpire's mask toward the mound.

Here are Todd Benzinger, Museum Director Greg Rhodes, Tom Browning and Ron Oester.
