The Black Crowes

At the Taft Theatre. Great show! I saw The Black Crowes a few times in high school/college on accident - they were at festivals I went to, so I didn't directly go to see them. Always enjoyed their show. G is a fan and since this show was a mere two blocks from our place, I figured it would be a good one to get to. They certainly didn't disappoint.

Great moment during the show: some ass throws a beer bottle on stage in the direction of Chris Robinson. He totally stops the show right there and says they won't play again unless dude is kicked out. Folks in the crowd fingered him out and he was booted quickly. Not much of a story, but it was pretty awesome to see. The Crowes turned it up a notch after that and blew the doors off the rest of the show.

Cincinnati band, The Buffalo Killers, opened the show. Photo.

So, as usual, here are my shitty camera phone photos...

Arcade Fire

G and I headed up to the ol' C-Bus to catch Arcade Fire with LCD Soundsytem. What a fantastic show! I was expecting a great one - and got that and more. Hope to see them again in a few years. I guess this show was the second-to-last in the tour and they are off to record a new album next year. Sweet! Here are some shitty cameraphone photos... enjoy!

At the Newport in Columbus. Fun show. Not quite as tight as I thought they would be, but fun. I'm not sure they have a song that I don't like. That's pretty good.

Mr. Warnick did the poster for the show. It's a nice limited edition silkscreen and you can get one for yourself here real soon.

Silversun Pickups at Southgate House

It's been a few days, but I have to finally update this post with my thoughts on the night.

Yowza!

I've never caught a band two nights in a row. Not even Pearl Jam, folks! The Silversun Pickups do a great show, night in and night out. They showed back to back when I saw them - and this was just off the heels of their Lollapalooza performance, which was likely pretty intense for them. The show Friday night at the Southgate House ended up being sold out with folks hanging out on the steps in front with signs begging for tickets. It was a hot show, folks! Indy the night before was crowded, but not sold out. these guys have been picking up fans all year and it shows. Their set at Southgate House last year opening for Film School was sparsely attended. Damn, I wish I was there! I ended up hearing about them the next day from my friend Amy.

Video (crappy) from the show:
Well Thought Out Twinkles
Little Lover's So Polite

Before the show, I headed to Chris Gliebe's gallery opening at Feralmade. He has some absolutely fantastic work there - tons of robot stuff!! When I showed up just after the doors opened at 7pm, half his work was sold. By the end of the night all but two pieces were spoken for. I'm sure they will be snagged before the end of the show next month. I got a chance to speak with Chris, and he seemed like a fantastic guy and signed the his Fatcap toy that I bought at the show. Too bad I ended up smudging it before I even got back to the car!

Friday fun

Silversun Pickups & Chris Gliebe

Tonight's going to be a fun night once work is over! I'll be headed up to my friend's gallery in Northside - Feralmade - to catch the opening of Chris Gliebe's solo show "Dedicated". His wicked underground hip-hop style and love of robots will be fantastic to see in person. After all, I'm a sucker for robots. Check out this time-lapse video of the gallery being painted.

After that, I'll be headed to see The Silversun Pickups for the second (yes, second!) night in a row. I caught them last night at the Vogue in Indy. Check out cameraphone photos here. I'll be toting the digital camera tonight hoping to get some nicer shots and maybe some video clips. This band totally rawks and I'm stoked to see them again.

So, a great night to be had! Stop back in for photos and whatnot tonight and this weekend.

"Tautou" and "Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades" preformed by Brand New at the Newport Theatre on Friday, March 16th, 2007.

Not the greatest video. Horrible sound. Sorry... but that's what you get with a digi cam. Regardless, enjoy.

Brand New at The Newport

Photos from the sold out Brand New show at The Newport in Columbus. It was the first time I had seen Brand New live, and I was quite impressed. They're pretty good band, solid songs, lots of energy and tons of dedicated fans. Thanks to Chris for getting me out to the show.

Of the two openers, Manchester Orchestra caught my interest. They seem to be a great up-and-coming band. Chris and I both ended up picking up their album at the show.

So, photos are below. I went ahead and combined all my photoblog posts into one. Nothing spectacular photo-wise, but they are what they are. Enjoy.

Is sexy back?

Maybe it is. G and I went to the Justin Timberlake show at US Bank - we had free tickets. I have more to say about this, but will later. Tonight I'm going to see Brand New with Chris at The Newport in C-bus. That should cleanse me of last night, right? Photos will be coming as the day/night goes on. Stay tuned.

The Walkmen

Caught The Walkmen at the Southgate House last night. Good show, though I was not too excited about the encore. I don't know their songs well enough to tell you the setlist, but it ended on a bit of a downer. I'm not disappointed though, it was a good show. They tore through a great version of "The Rat". Check out this live version on Letterman here. That song totally kicks ass.

On my way to work this morning I was thinking about how this week is like a little personal SXSW. I will be making it to four shows six days. Here's the rundown:

Sunday March 11th - Stars of Track and Field
Monday March 12th - The Walkmen
Thursday March 15th - Justin Timberlake (yes - TIMBERLAKE!!!!)
Friday March 16th - Brand New

Not a bad week, eh? Since I know a few folks that are traveling out west the Austin for SXSW, the shows will take my mind off the jealousy.

So, Timberlake... Yes, G and I are going. She won tickets to the show. I'm actually looking forward to it - it will probably be fun.

More Walkmen photos...

Stars of Track and Field

Whoa! So glad I went to this show. Stars of Track and Field were pretty damn good. Great Lakes Myth Society opened and were fun to hear as well. There were about 30ish people there to see the show. Intamate, for sure. Great Sunday night, for sure!

Even though they played a little room in front of a bar at The Southgate House, Stars of Track and Field buseted out the light show. Nice!

Heading home

Anna, Gretchen and I head home from the RHCP show Saturday night. Great show! We had fun. One thing I love about living downtown is leaving US Bank Arena or a Reds game and watching everyone fighting traffic to get home. We just walk a few blocks and we're in for the night. Love it.

Spotlight dudes

So, I've never seen this before - in the stage rig for RHCP, they had four guys on each side stationed in the hanging scaffolding (yes, above the stage) each manning a spotlight for each member of the band. They would have two lights on either side of the stage spotlighting each member of the band. It was crazy to see them each climb a rope ladder a good 40-50 feet off the floor. 400-50 is a complete guess... but it was pretty high. I wish I had a better photo of it, this one doesn't show the guy very well.

The whole stage set-up was pretty intense. I've see a few Pearl Jam shows and they are pretty stripped down compared to this. As cool and big as it was, it was nothing compared to the Rolling Stones set-up. But, what band has that???

Fountain Square - Go!

You can't really tell in the photo, but OK Go came out for an encore sans instruments and performed one of their cherographed dance routines to the delight of the Cincinnati crowd. Great move...

I'll write more later, but I have to say right now that the Fountain Square reopening was pretty kick-ass. The organizers did it up right, and I believe all the folks there really dug it too. I'm impressed. I'm hoping they will do this often - I'm not kidding... maybe once a month, shut down the streets and have a concert... have a couple of bands... indie, regional, MTV pop, whatever. Get folks down here and having a good time. Oh, and I think the new layout of the Square is fantastic.

Anyways, more later. You can see my photo below of Los Lobos (kick ass!) and Talib Kwali.

Flatstock & Pitchfork

Tomorrow, I will be taking of with Rob and Keith for Chicago to hit the Pitchfork Music Festival and Flastock 9 with them. Those guys are fantastic poster artists and will have a booth at Flatstock. I'm just a wanna-be designer along for the ride. A groupie, I guess.

Anyways, I am going to be photo blogging while we are there, right here, on this blog. So, if you one of the three people that actually read this thing, keep it tuned all weekend. Who knows what's going to pop up.

My initial plan was to do a Flatstock/Pitchfork blog for just the weekend, and really pimp it out. But, work has gotten in the way and I never got it done. Maybe next time. It's not like I don't have enough blogs anyways.
