Reapolstered Eames Lounge set

Who in the hell would do this to an Eames Lounger? Hopefully, the leather was beyond repair and they replaced it to match the curtains in the room. Nope, still unacceptable. I'll have to check it out and see if it's a authentic lounge... In passing on my way to work this morning, it looked real - but I need a second look.

Car wreck

G and I saw this bad boy happen while walking near out condo downtown. The kids in the Audi flew through a red light and slammed into the cab. Everyone was okay. The cabby took the worst of it. I think he hit his face on the steering wheel - there was no airbag. Some fire fighters were soon on the scene and cleaned him up. The kids made it out without a scratch. As fast as they all were going, it amazing that everyone was okay.

The Graveyard

dan mahan faces
While poking around for a robot illustration I did a while back today, I was rummaging through all the damn file folders I have for this site, and I came across some old danmahan.com designs. Surprisingly, I still dig them and they each represent neat-o times in my life. You can check out my site from 2001 here and the 2002 design here. The current site is actually an evolution from my design in either late '03 or sometime in 2004, so it's not actually archive. Not worried about it, either.

I do have a few more sites (3, possibly) dating back to 1998! I know I created my first "web page" for a class in 1997, but I doubt I have that anywhere. Who knows, maybe it's still on the TSU servers. I'm not kidding either, a lot of my old crap is hanging around there still. Awesome. So, I may still throw a few of those old sites up for fun. They're a bit embarrassing, so I'll have to give it some thought.

Bugh! Bugh!

Reds fan

This dude was a trip. There are so many things to cover with this one... I will just have to do it in list form.

- No shirt
- Pirate hat
- Pirate hook thing for hand... with no hook
- Yelled "Bugh" a lot
- Struck the Captain Morgan pose quite a few times
- Gave Rob a high-five

and...

- The only person at a baseball game I have ever seen catch a foul ball and throw it back on the field. WHAT? Who does that? Apparently, this guy does.

BUGH! BUGH!

Another car mishap

So, Friday was a hell of a day for car accidents. First, the car on fire, then this. You can really see much from this photo, but just outside of Louisville (on our way to see The Decemberists), we drove by a car that was flipped completely upside down and on the side of the highway. C-R-A-Z-Y. This did not look like a good accident. The passengers in my car said they saw a woman sitting on the guard rail holding her head while coved in blood. Not cool.

On a more entertaining car spotting moment, G and I drove past a car Saturday afternoon that had a woman leaning leaning out of the side of the car throwing up. Sorry, no photo on that one.

I am not making any of this up. I seem to witness this stuff on a daily basis anymore.

Car fires, gotta love 'em!

Car fire on I-275

I'm not sure what it is, but maybe I'm lucky or something. The past few years I've been witness to several car fires. Not just little things, but cars that are fully engulfed in flames. There's something about seeing fireball on the side of the highway. The photo above was taken this morning right after I dropped of G for work on 75/71 north in Kentucky. I can't believe I got such a great shot of it while driving by. Yes, I was gawking... but I tried to keep it to a minimum.

Here's another car fire that G and I drove by while leaving Chicago a few years ago:

Car fire on Chicago highway

There have been a few others. While CiN Weekly was in their offices on Reading Road, there was a car in the parking lot going up in flames. Pretty exciting. Sorry, no photo for that one... didn't have my camera on me that day!

In high school, I had a Fiero (yes, awesome, I know) and while driving on I-275 one night, I drove by another Fiero that had just been on fire. Since the body was made of fiberglass, the entire back end of the car (it was a mid-engine design) had pretty much melted off. I felt awful for the poor little Fiero. It also scared the hell out of me. Sorry, no photo of that one either. I have photos of my Fiero in boxes somewhere... I may have to dig one of those out soon.

Aside fires, I do run into other car mishaps and photograph them. Here is an AMAZING wreck that happened in the parking garage across from CiN Weekly back in 2004. Here's another nice little accident down the street from our previous apartment. Enjoy!
